Boston In home Family Photos

Winter in Boston is long and isn't ideal for outdoor family photography compared to fall. However, your family's story doesn't stop because of the weather. Here are some tips for preparing for an indoor family photography session.

It's Not About Having a Perfect House

Many people worry that their home is too messy or doesn't look like something from a magazine. But here's the truth: your home is where you live your daily life and create your family's story. It has unique character and spaces that can't be found anywhere else. During our session, I'll focus on your family's connection and the beautiful light in your home-not whether everything is perfectly styled. Your real, lived-in space is exactly what makes these photos meaningful.

Think about your color palette.

Consider your wall colors and furniture when choosing outfits. Coordinating with your home's existing colors creates a cohesive, harmonious look in the final images. I will be here to support you finding the right outfit.

During the Session

Show me your favorite spaces.

Whether it's the sunny kitchen, a cozy reading nook, or your kids' bedroom, the spaces you love most will photograph with genuine warmth.

Don't hide the real stuff.

A few toys, your child's artwork on the fridge, family photos on the walls - these details tell your story. Lived-in is beautiful.

Plan some activities.

Think about what you naturally do together at home - baking, reading, playing games, building with blocks. These activities create authentic moments and help everyone relax.

Other Tips

Dress for comfort first.

You'll be sitting on floors, cuddling on couches, and moving around your home. Choose outfits that look great but also let you move and play naturally.

Keep snacks handy.

Especially with young children, having quick snacks and drinks in the kitchen can save the day when energy dips.

Set the temperature comfortably.

We'll be moving around and kids can get warm quickly. A slightly cooler home is usually more comfortable during the session.

Have a pet plan.

Decide in advance if you want your pets in photos. If not, arrange for them to stay in another room or with a neighbor during our session.
